IMF Says Japan And Spain Are Done

According to a report from the IMF, both Japan and Spain have gone over the fiscal cliff with a Debt to GDP ratio that will not stabilize.   With that said, here is the kicker, they do not even mention the U.S. at all. Spain has a current Debt to GDP ratio of over 90% while the U.S. has one of 106.7%.  Yes, they can throw numbers around; however, when it comes to the bottom line…   Everyone is broke.

Retail Sales Fall More Than Expected in Third Straight Monthly Decline

According to the Commerce Department, retail sales fell 0.5 percent in June from May.   The drop in sales followed declines in the previous two months.   Perhaps too many people have ran out unemployment benefits and it takes time to transition to disability paychecks.   With back to school shopping starting, it will be interesting to see how the numbers work going forward.

Corn prices are jumping after the USDA cut corn yield by 20 bushels to 146 bushels per acre.   This 12% cut is due to the heatwave and drought conditions that are the worst since 1988.   Corn, used in 95% of all foods and feed for animals for meat only mean one thing.   As corn goes up, so will your grocery bill; therefore, panic now and avoid the rush and get your food supply in order.

Security Council to condemn the violence in Syria.

China’s Surprise Rate Cut Signals More Trouble Ahead

China’s unexpected cut in interest rates – the second in less than a month – suggests that the world’s second-biggest economy is in worse shape than it appears.  China is due to release closely-watched indicators, including inflation and second quarter GDP growth.  If the economy continued to weaken and there is indication that the Chinese government could miss its official target, there will certainly be more stimulus measures.

U.S. Unemployment: 8.2%

The U.S. economy created just 80,000 jobs in June and the official unemployment rate held steady at a bogus 8.2 percent.  The Bureau of Labor Statistics said private payrolls increased by 84,000, while the government lost 4,000 jobs.  Economists had expected a job growth of about 100,000; thus, they were shocked I tell you…  Just shocked!  It appears that we are getting to the “are you kidding me” stage of the denial when it comes to these statistics.
