Officials from the European Central Bank warned yesterday that six quarters of recession are eroding the resilience of banks.    They added that financial stability conditions in the euro area remain fragile.   This means possible bail-ins for EU banks because, to bankers, that is more important than the greater economic health.

U.S. Banks See Record Profit

U.S. banks posted a record 40.3 billion dollar profit in the first three months of the year.    Just 4 of the nation’s approximately 7,000 FDIC-insured banks failed in the January-through-March period, down from 16 a year earlier.    Bank profits were helped by the need to set aside less money to cover bad loans.   Isn’t nice that some are benefiting in this economy nicely?

Monsanto Pollution Alert

Officials at the USDA just announced they found a significant amount of unapproved genetically engineered wheat growing in farm fields in Oregon.    These strains of GE wheat escaped from GMO field experiments conducted across 16 states by Monsanto from 1998 to 2005.   How convenient that Monsanto will now be able to sue all U.S. farms, if any of this GMO wheat is found, for piracy.    Needless to say, this was most likely not an accident, but by deliberate intent.    The only ethical re-course, at this point, is to destroy all possible infected fields for at least 2 years and pay for all damages to those farmers that lost their crop at Monsanto’s expense.

Corruption of the IRS cannot be legitimately be denied now that the Fifth Amendment has been invoked.     Now, the flat tax, that would do away with all deductions and loopholes is gaining steam; however, what to do with the significant percentage of the employees at the IRS is a good question.    Perhaps, they would volunteer to go to Mars?

The U.S. dollar is shrinking as a percentage of the world’s currency supply.    When compared to its peers, the dollar has drifted to a 15-year low.    While the dollar has 62%, of the 6 trillion dollars in allocated foreign exchange holdings by the world’s central banks, it is falling.    The reasons are clear…   Irresponsible fiscal policy out of Washington and the Fed’s quantitative easing.

RBI Restricts Banks Lending Against Gold

India’s attack on gold continues as officials at the Reserve Bank of India said banks would not be allowed to give loans against units of gold exchange-traded funds.   They also want to limit bank loans to 50 grams of gold per customer.  Sounds like a black market opportunity in gold over there.

Surge In Consumer Confidence

According to the Conference Board’s measure, there has been a surge in consumer confidence and it has hit 2008 levels.    The surge is so pronounced that people with plans to buy a home, a car, or a television within the next six months fell.    Something tells me that they do not know what surge really means.

U.S. Mint Resumes Selling 1/10 Ounce Gold Coins

The U.S. mint has once again restocked on the popular 1/10 ounce denomination with a 20,000 production limit.    The coin will set you back just 195 dollars.    So, in effect, about a 40 dollar mark-up from the price of gold.   Sounds like someone is making a killing here.

Farmer Acquitted

Wisconsin farmer Vernon Hershberger, who was prosecuted for selling raw milk to willing consumers was acquitted.    Jurors found him innocent of producing and selling raw milk, and cheese, without a license.   The verdict means he can continue to sell his farm’s products to members of a buying club he started.    So, to those who are against true capitalism and free enterprise…   Go sit and spin!

Expanding DNA Strands

People have two strands of DNA coiled into a spiral; however, a two-year-old boy, Alfie Clamp, became the only person in the world to be diagnosed with an extra strand in his DNA.    Also, scientists believe that it is possible to have a 12-strand helix DNA.    This is possibly the beginning of a mutation of our species into something for which the end result is not yet known.
