Japan’s Downgrade

Moody’s downgraded Japan from Aa3 to A1. This is because of uncertainty on deficit reduction goals, growth with background deflationary pressure, and rising government bond yields. Perhaps another reason is that Moody’s payoff, by Japan, was lost? So, with U.S. debt now above 18 trillion dollars, will the U.S. see another downgrade or is the check in the mail?

The last time that foreign nations repatriated over 1 million ounces of Gold from the New York Fed in a single month was September of 2008, when they repatriated 1.11 million ounces. This was just prior to the financial crisis that started in October 2008.
