Since 1965, the public debt, as a percentage, of GDP has almost doubled. Since 1965, Social Security and Medicare costs have gone from 3.93 to 8.55%, as a percentage of GDP. Perhaps the lyrics for “Land of Confusion” should be re-written to “We’re just making promises that we know we’ll never keep”
