Deficit Spending

The good news is that the government deficit spending went down in 2012 compared to 2011.    The bad news is that there really is not a huge difference between 1.3 and 1.08 trillion dollars in deficit spending.    In fiscal 1947 through fiscal 2008, the deficit never reached the 6.8% of GDP it reached in fiscal 2012.     Looks like the Federal Reserve will have to step up their bond buying.

Borrowing For Schools?

Just a month after Detroit became the largest American city to file for bankruptcy, and with major cities like Chicago and Los Angeles struggling, Philadelphia is borrowing 50 million dollars just open their indoctrination centers err… schools on time.    And get this, two students are selling rubber-band bracelets for 5 dollars to raise money for their school district.    At least someone is kind of thinking in the right direction. Speaking of schools…

In 2013, so far, consumer confidence missed expectations.   It was projected to be at a cyclical high of 85.2; however, it dropped like a rock to 80.    Both the current and future conditions indices collapsed to their lowest in 4 months. Nothing says economic recovery like a collapse in consumer confidence…    Not!

Sequester Shuts Down Space Surveillance System

On October 1st, while Obama continues playing golf and/or vacationing, the satellite and ground tracking system; known as the space fence, that tracks satellites, meteoroids and space debris heading our way, will be shut down because of sequester.    It’s interesting that government officials thought it reasonable to shut down such a critical part of our defense system.    At least we have Leonardo Retardo DiCaprio narrating a Hubble telescope documentary and the NSA tracking what everyone is doing on the internet at all times.

India Raises Gold Import Tax Yet Again

Unlike the average American, Indians are more keenly aware of what is going on with the global economy.    They see their own currency falling and they are racing to hard assets like physical gold and silver.    The Indian government, to curb the tide of private physical gold ownership, have increased the gold import tax from 8 to 10%.   Duties on silver imports were also increased from 6% to 10%.   Desperation is definitely setting in over there while many are distracted as to why Harry Potter fans hate George Bush.
